A warm welcome to our Year 1 page!
If your child is in Year 1 please familiarise yourself with this page as it will let you know the various activities the classes are currently involved in.
Our current topic in literacy is the Seaside. We have already explored various story books, including 'The Rainbow Fish' and the picture book 'Flotsam'. From this we have created some beautiful pieces of writing, including a message in a bottle, a comic strip and detailed first person accounts. Recently we have been focusing on incorporating question marks and exclamation marks into our writing. This will continue to be a main focus moving into the second half of the Summer term.
This term we are continuing our work on measurements. We will be focusing on shape, with the key focus being: the names and properties of common 2D and 3D shapes. This will lead onto position and movement, in which year 1 will be taught how to describe the position, direction and movement of objects, including whole turns, half turns, quarters turns and three-quarter turns.
Our topic this term is 'Plants', we will growing our own sunflower and tomato plants in class. As well as exploring various wild flowers, trees and more in the school grounds.
Homework and spellings will be set every Friday. Homework will be due in on the following Wednesday.
Spellings will be tested on a Thursday morning.
